The Grand Scribe's Records, Volume 1

The Grand Scribe's Records (史記)

by Sima Qian (c. 145–86 BC, Western Han)Translated by Valentin Sarić

Sima Qian's Records of the Grand Historian is the founding work of Chinese history: a single man's account of the world from the Yellow Emperor to his own day, told through annals, tables, treatises, the houses of the great families and the lives of ministers, assassins, merchants, jesters and generals. This first volume holds the Basic Annals, the reigns from the legendary sage-kings through Xia, Shang and Zhou, the First Emperor of Qin, Xiang Yu and the Han emperors, followed by the chronological Tables. This complete new English translation is published in three volumes; this is Volume 1 of 3, and the whole set is also available as a bundle. Each volume stands on its own, with its own table of contents.
